I've been a Star Trek fan since I was about 5 years old, and I'm now 21. A lot of my friends watch it but don't enjoy it as much as I do, but then I don't have a life hehe :-).

The aim of this site is to just enjoy the show, talk about the episodes, the first 6 films and the characters that have become part of life as we know it (no pun intended).

Star Trek was a science-fiction show created by Gene Roddenberry in 1964. His first pilot, The Cage was seen bu the network as 'too thoughtful' but asked him to try again. The second pilot, Where No Man Has Gone Before was much more action packed, and had been recast with William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy and not Jeffrey Hunter. Although more action packed, the series was still thoughtful. Roddenberry himself said that he wanted it to be Horatio Hornblower on outer space. Actually the point of Star Trek was characters, and to sneak an enlightened version of mankind past the censors.

Star Trek ran for 3 seasons, starting on September 8th 1966 at 8.30 pm, before being cancelled in summer of 1969 due to very low ratings. That's what you get for putting such a widey watched show on at 10pm on a Friday night! Looking back this was a huge mistake by the network, as when the show went into syndication, it quickly took off, becoming the most popular programme on TV in America. Star Trek first showed on British TV on 14th July 1969 and on German TV 27th May 1972. Star Trek in Germany is called 'Die Raumschiff Enterprise.'

There was talk throughout the 70's as to wether Star Trek would return. There was a short lived animated version that was fine enough, but Trekkers wanted more. With the success of Star Wars, Close Encounters Of The Third Kind and Superman, Paramount decided that it was time for new Star Trek, and released Star Trek: The Motion Picture at Christmas 1979. Dubbed The Slow Motion Picture, The Motionless Picture and The Motion Sickness by Trekkers and ordinary filmgoers, Paramount decided to do a better job, and in 1982 released the film that saved Star Trek. It was called The Wrath Of Khan, and has been since accepted as one of sci-fi's all time great films. The rest, as they say, is history!
